Heat Pumps & Pastie Rolls

I discovered a few weeks ago that there is a minor language barrier here πŸ™‚ In conversation, someone started talking about ‘heat pumps.’ Well, not wanting to show my ignorance, I continued the conversation, assuming that this expression would eventually fall into place and context. Thankfully, it did. In Victoria these are called split system aircon πŸ™‚ A week later, in a cafe, several people came in and ordered ‘pastie rolls.’ I had to sneak a look to find that the humble pastie had an additional name here πŸ™‚ I will keep you all updated as I endeavour to master this new language πŸ™‚

  1. Having never heard of a pastie roll, I assume they are in fact referring to a savoury roll – which is like a sausage roll, but with the potato meat filling of a pastie (and yummy). Actually rarely see the humble pastie these days:(
